Grace and I decide to make homemade chocolate chip cookies last week. I thought it would be fun to try a new recipe and Grace was eager to help. I gathered all the ingredients and we began to make our yummy cookie dough. Boy did that dough taste yummy! (Yes, I know we should never eat raw cookie dough.)
After the dough was ready, I began scooping the dough onto my two cookie sheets. I thought it would be fun to make jumbo cookies, so I used my ice cream scoop to dip them out. Once the cookies were in the oven and the baking began… I quickly realized something was not right…. The batter was just melting away…running all together into one huge cookie mess. THEN IT HIT ME… Wait! How much flour did the recipe call for… Hummmm…. 2 1/4 cups flour…
OH NO!!! I only put ONE CUP OF FLOUR in the batter!!!! I then remembered my daughter had stumped her toe on the kitchen stool while I was getting the flour. I never went back to get the other 1 1/4 cups of flour to the mix. You would have thought I would have noticed. Right? Well, it was a new recipe. When I was combining the ingredients in the mixer, I had a thought that the batter seemed very light. LOL!! DUH!
Well, it was too late to fix the first two sheet of cookies currently baking. So, with the remainder of the dough, I added more flour and baked those cookes. The “fixed” turned out great. Regarding the first batch of cookies, Grace declared, “Those cookies look weird!”. Well, they did. But they tasted good to me. The second batch with the added flour did taste great. I will definitely use this recipe again – making sure to add the CORRECT amount of flour next time.
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 2¼ cup flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 – 12 oz bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Preheat oven 375
- Cream the butter and sugars.
- Add the eggs and vanilla to the batter.
- In separate bowl, combine flour, salt, baking soda. Gradually add the flour mix to the creamed batter.
- Add chips.
- Spoon out dough on ungreased cookie sheets.
- Bake 9 minutes.
So, what was your worst baking #fail?
I would like to wish your family a Happy Fourth of July!

Hi lisa, your cookie story made me smile and as for my worst baking fail Im not even sure.. Ive had quite a few. Here recently I made a batch of muffins that were so horrible I had to throw them all out- they were like hockey pucks. Followed the recipe to the T but I think it just wasnt a good one.
Thanks for hosting this party and hope your family has a great holiday.

It sure looks like Grace had fun baking those cookies, and you are not the first person to forget to add part of an ingredient – or even a whole ingredient. I left the baking powder out of a cake once…It’s one of those mistakes you don’t make twice
I’ve shared my Cinnamon Dolce Latte Marble Cake this week. Thank you so much for hosting.
Chocolate chip cookies are like pizza…even when they are bad, they are still pretty good!
Grace is adorable! Thanks so much for hosting
Yum… I love chocolate chip cookies! Thank you for hosting!
Cookies are always my fail.. I’m a good cook but not a great baker.
Though I’d eat just about any type of chocolate chip cookie.. fail or not.. LOL
Have a great 4th!
There’s nothing wrong with eating raw cookie dough. Eggs are irradiated, so yum!
Plus, it’s good for your immune system
My biggest fail was the first time I made flan and the caramel cooled before I coated the bottom. I put the glass pan on the stove to reheat the caramel, and it all exploded. Oops.
